Salmon of Knowledge Silver Necklace
This silver pendant is based on the Salmon of Knowledge (Bradán Feasa), a mystical fish which features prominently in ancient Irish legend.
According to myth, the fish was an ordinary salmon who ate nine magical hazelnuts, which had fallen into the Well of Wisdom (Tobar Segais). In doing so it gained all the world's knowledge.
The fish was finally caught and given to Fionn MacCool (Fionn mac Cumhaill) the legendary Irish warrior. While cooking the salmon Fionn burnt his thumb and immediately stuck it into his mouth to cool. In this act the salmon's wisdom passed to Fionn and from that moment on, whenever Fionn sucked his thumb, he gained whatever knowledge he was seeking.
The Salmon of Knowledge pendant measures circa 35 mm across by 15 mm high and is made from sterling silver. It comes complete with an 18" silver chain and is a beautiful piece of Celtic jewellery.
